Doula support

It used to be common for pregnant women to be accompanied by other women with experience in childbirth. Often this was a whole group of women.

Unfortunately, the reality is quite different now. Due to the loss of large families, hospitalizations, and a shortage of medical staff, a woman in labor is often alone with her partner.

Doula comes from the Greek douleia and means servant of the woman.

And this is what a doula does. She is the emotional support for the woman during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Her tasks are not medical, and she does not replace a midwife!

As a doula certified to Lamaze standards, I ensure that we build a relationship of trust during pregnancy.
During several visits to your home, we will discuss the birth process, I will show you massage techniques, we will talk about your wishes and needs, and much more.

During labor, I will be with you at home, whenever you wish, in the delivery room, at the birthing center, or at your home birth. I will be your contact person around the clock. I will help you breathe through contractions, assist with massage (including with a rebozo), guide you through different positions, and am available to discuss your wishes. I am also happy to act as a liaison between you, your partner, and the midwives and doctors. I will also take care of your partner so that you can fully concentrate on the birth.

And then I'll visit you during the postpartum period. We'll talk about the birth, I'll help you process it, and I'll complement the midwife's postpartum care with tips on infant care and as a lactation consultant.

You will receive a personal birth book from me as a keepsake, including a report on our meetings during pregnancy, a birth story, postpartum support, and I will take photos upon request.

What I don't do: I don't replace a midwife. Therefore, I don't perform any medical tasks, such as monitoring fetal heart tones, checking the cervix, or anything similar. In an emergency, I am subject to the instructions of the midwife and doctors.

My name is Sandra Garding, I am 33 years old, mother of two girls and a qualified health and nursing professional since 2010.

With my children, I've been fortunate enough to experience two different journeys to parenthood, pregnancies, and births. Every day they accompany me through a world full of wonder. During these times, I've learned so much about myself, my body, my fears about motherhood, and the miracle of nature.

The need to support families in this process grew steadily. So I used my parental leave to pursue further education. This was done primarily online, as this type of training was the best way for me to combine motherhood and professional development. I could be there for my children and expand my own experience through knowledge.

Now I would like to share my knowledge with you and help you on your journey. In my adopted home of East Frisia, I am happy to support you in person, but also online via Zoom throughout Germany.

I'm looking forward to starting your individual life journey with you. You deserve it!
