What is a doula?

 

A doula sees herself as a 'servant' of the woman giving birth. She accompanies her during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. .

A doula does not perform any medical tasks; she does not replace a midwife.

She provides emotional support to the woman and helps her believe in her abilities.

28% less need for painkillers and anesthesia (demand for an epidural even decreased by 60%)

50% lower risk of cesarean section

39% less administration of labor-inducing agents

33% less risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience
