Bengkung Belly Binding is a Malaysian tradition where a long scarf is used to support the postpartum recovery of new mothers. During pregnancy, your body was already under considerable strain. Your muscles and internal organs made room for the little miracle growing inside you. Everything softened to prepare your body for childbirth.

Your body was under considerable strain during childbirth, so it's perfectly normal that you feel somewhat detached after the birth of your child.

Your body has performed a true feat of strength; now it's time to get to know your little earthling, enjoy the time with your baby, and above all, recharge your batteries.

This includes getting plenty of sleep, resting, and giving your body the opportunity to regenerate. Your body needs to recover, your uterus needs to return to its original size, your internal organs need to return to their proper positions, and the diastasis recti needs to close.

The scarf is tied from your lower leg to below your breast to optimally support your body during postpartum recovery.

The difference:

Unlike typical postpartum support belts, this one doesn't compress your belly, but rather wraps it around to support your recovery. It's recommended that you primarily wear the scarf while lying down, which should be easy to incorporate into your postpartum routine.

During the consultation, I'll show you how to tie the scarf yourself and what's important. To give you a feel for how the scarf should feel on you, I'll tie it for you once. If you'd like, I can also bring you a warming spice paste, which also supports postpartum recovery.

The scarf:

For belly binding during the postpartum period, we use a cotton scarf that is approximately 13 meters long. You are welcome to borrow or buy a scarf from me.

When can I start?

Today we know that the best results, especially regarding diastasis recti, are achieved during the postpartum period. This time is your personal break with your baby and partner, and above all, it's the time when your body can and should regenerate. Therefore, you should rest as much as possible during this period and spend as much time lying down as you can. However, as soon as you feel ready, I'd be happy to come to you and we can involve you in the treatment in your familiar surroundings.

After a cesarean section, abdominal binders can only be used 6 weeks after birth, once the scar has healed well.
