Autogenic training during pregnancy is a scientifically recognized, easy-to-learn, and highly effective relaxation technique. Similar to hypnobirthing, this method utilizes the power of your thoughts to achieve deep physical and mental relaxation and to elicit or influence specific bodily reactions. The method sensitizes pregnant women to more readily perceive stress-related physical symptoms and is excellent as mental preparation for childbirth. Further positive effects of autogenic training during pregnancy include support for sleep problems, relief from back pain and other common discomforts, and the ability to relax internally within seconds. It also facilitates a deep connection with the baby, increases self-awareness and body awareness, strengthens trust in one's own body, reduces anxiety, insecurity, and nervousness, and serves as a source of strength for a self-determined birth. In addition, it can help alleviate pain during childbirth by breaking the cycle of fear, tension, and pain.
The course "Relaxed through Pregnancy and Childbirth: Autogenic Training for Expectant Mothers" covers the basic level of autogenic training. This basic level focuses on influencing bodily functions to achieve deep physical relaxation through six psychophysiological exercises.
The course consists of eight 90-minute sessions. Autogenic training can be practiced lying down or sitting, although many women, especially in later stages of pregnancy, prefer sitting as their relaxation position.
The course is recognized by the ZPP as a prevention course according to §20 SGB V and is subsidized by most health insurance companies.
