Welcome to Milkmaid!
I am Laura, a certified breastfeeding and lactation consultant and myself a mother of two wonderful boys.
For me, breastfeeding was never an issue – after pregnancy and birth, breastfeeding was the logical next step. From an early age, I liked the idea of breastfeeding my child freely, anywhere, and for as long as possible (until toddler age and perhaps even tandem with a second child), and I never even considered that anything should stand in the way of that.
Not only I myself, but also many other women I've met, embark on this new adventure with this intention, but unfortunately with little knowledge about breastfeeding and the functions of their own bodies. While childbirth preparation courses are now commonplace, far too few expectant mothers neglect the topic of breastfeeding. This is not only due to our lack of awareness, societal influences, and decades of aggressive advertising by the formula industry, but also to the assumption that breastfeeding is intuitive.
Even though breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world, it requires not only knowledge but also some practice when two people who were practically strangers to each other meet and establish a very close physical connection within a very short time.
I advise every expectant mother to familiarize herself with the topic of breastfeeding before the birth. The first hours and days after birth are crucial for successful breastfeeding – good preparation can protect you from many uncertainties, anxieties, and tears, and lays the foundation for a beautiful and secure breastfeeding relationship with your baby. A breastfeeding preparation course provides you with the necessary knowledge to clearly decide what you want and what you don't, you learn how milk production works, and you can focus entirely on the initial bonding period with your new little one.
But even if you didn't have the opportunity to explore this topic during your pregnancy and are now experiencing difficulties or worries, it's not too late to seek help. Breastfeeding should be a beautiful experience for you and your baby. Pain and weight concerns have no place here, so don't hesitate to ask for help. The topic of starting solids also confuses many parents, and I'm happy to advise you on that as well.
I'm here to help you with everything related to your baby's nutrition during the first two years of life!
We can schedule consultations in person, at my place or yours, or online. I also offer to visit you and your newborn directly after the birth in the hospital (Mainz, Kirchheimbolanden, or Kaiserslautern) for an initial consultation.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you!
Yours, Laura
